QUETTA: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has reached here to attend the opening ceremony of the 34th National Games.
Shehbaz reached the city via a private helicopter and is scheduled to come to Ayub Stadium at 4pm today.
Chief Minister Baluchistan Mir Abdul Qudoos Bazinjo and Governor Baluchistan Abdul Wali Kakar will accompany the PM.
The opening ceremony is set to commence here at 4pm.
All the participating teams have reached the stadium for games’ opener. They will do flag march before the PM lights the National Games’ torch.
Currently, Pakistan Army are leading the table with 99 medals (45 Gold, 32 Silver, 22 Bronze). WAPDA are second with 59 medals whereas Navy are third with 69 medals.
The organisers have finalised 32 sports to be contested during the mega event. These include archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, bodybuilding, boxing, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, rugby, rowing, sailing, shooting, squash, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, tug of war, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu and fencing.
Earlier, Police on Sunday created history as they won their maiden National Games men’s football event title when they whipped Pakistan Air Force (PAF) 3-0 in the final at the Ayub Stadium Quetta on Sunday.
In front of the jam-packed venue, Police did a fantastic job to beat a resourceful PAF being coached by Pakistan’s head coach Shehzad Anwar.
Mohammad Hanif provided Police lead in the 14th minute. Mohammad Wasay doubled his team’s lead in the 20th minute before landing his second and third goal for his side in the 75th minute to seal a superb win.
